Only a few long distance hikes offer the variety and grandeur of landscape as this route, The Trans-Alpine Crossing: Beginning in Germany at Tegernsee Lake, the route winds its way through Austria’s Tirol along Achensee Lake and across Zillertal Valley to Sterzing (Vipiteno) in Alto Adige,Italy. Crossing the Alps by foot, this 7 day hike offers an achievable and rewarding hiking challenge with spectacular views every step. It is well formed and well-marked, and is suitable for people with moderate fitness and limited experience.Quaint guesthouses, BB’s and hotels offer accommodation from luxurious to casual—there is a bed for every budget available at villages along The Trans-Alpine Crossing. | Roundawalk Lake Tegernsee From Gmund, situated on the northern lakeside the route follows Tegernsee High Altitude Trail to the resort of Tegernsee. Meandering some 100 metres above the lake, this walk offers stunning views of awesome Tegernsee Lake. Don’t miss out on visiting the Brewery Pub in Tegernsee. Then, take the unique rowing ferry to Rottach-Egern. The walk may continue along a natural trail that follows Weißach River to Kreuth. |

| Wilbad Kreuth - Achenkirch The bus transfer drives you to historic Wildbad Kreuth, where a footpath will take you through beech and mixed forest up to the wide open Alpine pastures of Gaisalm. From there, the trail meanders along a gentle mountain ridge in its beginning and across fields of dwarf pine later until you reach the mountain crest at the border between Germany’s Bavaria and Austria’s Tirol. This is where you will enjoy stunning and uninterrupted panoramic views from Tegernsee Lake in the north to the lofty Zillertal Alps in the south. | Achenkirch - Fügen Often called the most beautiful hiking trail in Tyrol, todays stage on the western shore of Lake Achensee is enchanting. From your hotel in Achenkirch, you hike along the well-maintained trail with easy up and down sections - including short sections with steps and handrails - to the Gaisalm. The path to the only alpine pasture in Tyrol that can only be reached on foot or by boat impresses with a fascinating mix of landscapes with waterfalls, varied vegetation and moraine cones almost right above the Tyrolean fjord. Bathing opportunities are available, but the Achensee, which lies at 1000m abo... weiterlesenve sea level and rarely has a water temperature of more than 18 degrees, requires some effort. Via Pertisau and then following the lakeside path, you reach the southern end of the lake in Maurach, also the departure point of the nostalgic Achenseebahn (steam cog railroad). | Fügen - Hochfügen Ride a bus or take historic Achensee Cog Railway and Zillertal Train to Fügen. Stroll through this lovely and picturesque village until you reach the base of Spieljoch Gondola. The gondola will speed you to Spieljoch Mountain, to an elevation of 1,865 metres. At the top, above timberline, capture panoramic views of the surrounding mountains of Zillertal Valley and of Karwendel, Rofan and Wilder Kaiser Ranges. | Hochfügen - Mayrhofen This day walk will take you to historic Alpine villages which are only found here in scenic Zillertal Valley. Beginning in Hochfügen, the track makes its way up to Sidanjoch Col past glacier-carved rocks. Having passed Rastkogel Hut, a short climb takes you atop Mitterwandskopf Peak. The gorgeous path meanders along a ridge to Melchboden, passing picture-postcard tarns which were glacially carved out during the last ice age. | Mayrhofen - Pfitsch - Sterzing Today is the day: you will cross the main Alpine ridge - your de facto crossing of the Alps. In the morning, you will travel comfortably by bus via the toll road to the Schlegeis reservoir (1,800 m above sea level) for the start of todays stage. The imposing dam wall - built for energy and water supply in the early 1970s - holds one of Austrias largest reservoirs and the glaciers behind it in check. Rushing streams and imposing waterfalls, scree and stone moraines characterize the moderate ascent on the well-maintained hiking trail to the Pfitscherjoch through the almost unreal landscape. Other notes
To ensure a stress-free start to the trip, we recommend arriving at the starting point by early evening in most cases. Some tours start as early as midday, in which case we recommend arriving the day before and will be happy to book an extra night for you at the same time. The individual return journey takes place on the last day of the tour. The distances are approximate and may differ from the actual distances covered. This tour is not suitable for people with reduced mobility.

Transfer Mayrhofen - Schlegeis Reservoir
On day 7:We will take you from Mayrhofen to the Schlegeis reservoir in the early morning by shuttle bus at no extra cost. This is where the hike over the Pfitscherjoch to South Tyrol begins. However, even in summer or early autumn, snowfall occasionally occurs well below 1,500 metres above sea level. Even then, large amounts of snow are possible. Coupled with temperatures around or below freezing, poor visibility and strong winds, this can quickly become life-threatening in the high mountains. F... contineor this reason, we offer a free shuttle bus from Mayrhofen to the next stage hotel in Pfitschtal on such days. The regular transport to the Schlegeis reservoir is then cancelled. On average, such an extreme weather situation occurs two to three times in the four months of the hiking season. We strongly advise against doing this stage.

If a minimum number of participants is required for the tour to take place, this is stated under "Prices and services". If the minimum number of participants is not reached, we reserve the right to cancel the trip up to four weeks before the "arrival date". We recommend organizing the arrival and departure only after this deadline has passed.

No matter how well planned a trip is, in rare cases unexpected things happen. At such times, it is nice to have someone you can rely on locally. For this reason, you have a local contact person on our individual activity trips who will be happy to provide you with information and, as stated in the travel documents, can be contacted in an emergency.
