The Nagelfluhkette with its mountain range of the same name to the south will now be at your side. Todays stage is the longest and most demanding of all. The trail along the idyllic river bank just before the village of Rettenberg comes a sharp climb that is a foretaste of the kilometres to come. The bike loop leads uphill to the Rottachspeicher reservoir. The effort is rewarded with a great view of the entire Oberallgäu. The hardest climb awaits you from Habsbichl towards Unterjoch. You then pass the border to Austria, barely noticeable, and ride into the Tannheimer Tal valley towards Tannheim. Back to Germany, the route follows the Ach River through the forests and small gorges of the Achtal. The route is as varied as it is beautiful. Once again you will experience the mountain panorama with its sometimes harsh climate before you reach Pfronten and todays stage destination.
(ca. 68 km)
At the beginning of todays stage, you will be rewarded with a magnificent view. Passing a few villages, you will reach the castle ruins of Hohenfreyberg and Eisenberg. Afterwards, the route continues to Hopfen am See. Along the lakeside promenade, also called the Riviera of the Allgäu, you will find many cafés and restaurants with breathtaking panoramic views of the peaks of the Ammergau, Lechtal, Tannheim and Allgäu Alps. Fields and meadows accompany you all the way to Füssen, always with the best view of the mountains, and on to Lake Forggensee. On the other side of the lake, the royal castles of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau can be seen again and again. The cycle path now leads you to Marktoberdorf. Along the railway tracks, the cycle tour reaches Kaufbeuren and thus the end of the Allgäu cycle tour.
(ca. 74 km)
Your days tour begins through Kaufbeuerns old town and following the Wertach towards Pforzen. After leaving the town after a few kilometres of cycling, you can stop briefly at the Schlingener reservoir to enjoy the biotope with its many water birds. Via gentle climbs, forest and meadow paths as well as views of the distant mountain peaks, you will reach the health town of Bad Wörishofen with its large spa and wellness offer, inspired by Pastor Sebastian Kneipp. Continue through small hamlets along the Kneipp cycle path, on which you will find numerous wayside crosses with thoughtful sayings, until you reach Ottobeuren and are greeted by the imposing basilica of the former imperial abbey of Ottobeuren as you enter the town. The well-signposted cycle path takes you through Ottobeuren and on to the district town of Memmingen. There, numerous restaurants and cafés await you in the historic old town
